How much data does PUBG use?
December 4, 2018If you play League of Legends on a mobile hotspot or installed mobile broadband connection, you might have to keep an eye on your data use to avoid throttled speeds and extra fees. While gaming on a limited connection can be a challenge, it doesn’t always have to be. By adjusting your game settings and being smart about downloads, patches, and updates, you can enjoy uninterrupted gaming all month long.
A League of Legends game uses 15-100 MB of data
On Riot Games forums, gamers say they use between 15 and 100 MB of data per 30 to 40 minute game of League of Legends. The amount of data that different players use varies depending on their game mode and settings. Modes like Twisted Treeline, for example, require fewer players and use about half the data of more populated modes.
When it comes to game settings, voice chat has a particularly strong effect on the data use of League of Legends gameplay. An average game on Summoner’s Rift, for example, uses between 15 and 30 MB of data without voice chat. With voice chat, it uses between 80 and 100 MB of data. If you use voice chat, then, expect to use up to 300% more data.
To find out exactly how much data you use while playing League of Legends, monitor your use with your carrier (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile) or with a free traffic monitoring application like Netlimiter. If you find you’re using too much data during gameplay, you can reduce your usage quickly by adjusting your game settings.
As a general rule, whichever game settings make the game run better also use less data. To save data, we’d suggest you:
- Switch off anti-aliasing.
- Set a frame-rate cap of less than 144 FPS, but more than 60 FPS.
- Set the shadow effect to low.
- Set character, effects, and environment to medium (or, if you’re really short on data, low).
The League of Legends download uses 6.5 GB of data
While it takes some serious time to use a lot of data playing League of Legends, it doesn’t take much time to use a lot of data downloading the game onto your computer. Currently, the Windows and Mac OS download for League of Legends hovers around 6.5 GB.
The League of Legends download size also increases often, since Riot Games releases patches for the game every two weeks. If you’re using a laptop to play League of Legends, we suggest connecting to public WiFi (in, for example, a library) before downloading the game.
League of Legends patches use 75+ MB of data each
League of Legends patches vary in size. While updates to audio or content storage can use more than 2 GB of data, routine patch downloads only use between 75 and 100 MB of data. Depending on the size of the patch, you might want to connect to public WiFi before updating your game if you have the option.

We’re looking for Video Content Creators of all types, but here’s what you gotta have no matter what:
- A League account in good standing and with a verified email address
- At least 30% of your content is League of Legends related
- 50+ average concurrent viewers on your livestreams in the past 30 days and/or 5,000+ average views on your video content in the past 30 days + 1,000 YouTube subscribers
- All applications are subject to review by regional team
We know League would be nowhere without a community of creators. The League Partnership Program is our effort to recognize the awesome content players like you create, support you in making more, and reward the work you put in.
The perks available during early access are focused on video content, but we’ll be rolling out more in the months to come. We’re looking for feedback on additional rewards you’re interested in and other ways we can support you and your content.
One last important note: partners are legally required to notify viewers that they’re receiving rewards from Riot. To comply, we’ll send you a League Partner badge that you’ll need to display for your viewers. More info on that to come with the first set of rewards when you're approved.
Still got questions about partnering up? Check out the FAQ for more details.
1. How long does it take to be approved?
The time it takes to approve your application for each region will vary as each local team will review and approve creators. Due to a large amount of applications, we expect this to take a few weeks.
2. What if I don't meet the viewer count requirements?
Past applications that don’t meet these thresholds will not be revisited, so please apply once you meet the requirements. If you need to re-apply, we suggest waiting 30 days so that you can grow your content and channel(s).
3. How do I receive rewards?
We’ll add rewards directly to the account you sign up with, or email rewards to the email address associated with the account (which is why you’ll need to use a verified email address).
4. How do the giveaways work?
Every few patches, one of the new skins will include an exclusive chroma only available through codes given to content creators. There may be ways for other players to obtain those chromas in the future, but don’t have plans for that at the moment.
5. What if I don’t own the champion or skin for the chroma?
Any partner chroma loot includes the champion, skin, and special chroma all in one.
